The story of the Consortium
Even before it became an official designation, protecting Aceto Balsamico di Modena was a shared choice.
It was a choice made by producers who, since 1993, the year the Consortium was founded, have joined forces to protect the identity of a product deeply rooted in its local area and guide it toward recognition as a PGI, Protected Geographical Indication.
1994
The application for registration was submitted the following year.
This marked the beginning of a long journey, built on determination, dialog with institutions, and a clear vision: to enhance the value of Aceto Balsamico di Modena while safeguarding the authenticity that makes it recognizable with every taste.
1998
In 1998, the Consortium adopted its first set of regulations. Its members committed to following precise production procedures and methods to protect consumers, ensuring that they could be confident they were purchasing certified Aceto Balsamico di Modena, while also guaranteeing a higher level of product quality.
2009
After years of dedicated work, on July 3, 2009, the European authorities approved the application for registration, and Aceto Balsamico di Modena was granted PGI status. But that achievement was not the end of the journey. It was the beginning of a new responsibility.
2014
In 2014, the Consortium was formally recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry as the Consorzio di Tutela dell’IGP Aceto Balsamico di Modena, assuming public responsibilities for promoting, defending, and protecting the product in Italy and around the world.
Our commitment
Since then, the Consortium has expanded and strengthened its commitment:
It monitors
the market and combats imitations
It collaborates
with the Ministry on the regulation of production-related matters
It promotes
the product through trade fairs, events, and media relations
Founded through the initiative of 12 producers, the Consortium now brings together 48 companies across the production chain.
A journey of growth that is also a promise: that every taste will convey the authenticity of a story, the strength of a region, and the value of an Italian excellence recognized around the world.
